The Ministry of National Security will be equipping police stations in Westmoreland with a number of basic items in order to improve the work environment for police personnel.

Portfolio Minister, Hon. Robert Montague, who made the disclosure at a town hall meeting at the Sean Lavery Faith Hall in Savanna-la-Mar on Monday (March 21), said the items to be provided will not cost a lot of money, and will go a far way in improving the morale of the police officers, who are assigned to the stations.

“What I have laid out here is not a whole lot of money. These are the little things that we need to do to say to the policemen and women ‘we appreciate the work that you do,’” he stated.

He informed that two air conditioning units will be installed in the training room at the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station, and three new mattresses and an electric kettle will be purchased for the barracks. The sanitary facilities at the station will also be improved.

In addition, office chairs will be purchased for the Whitehouse station; a water tank will be installed at Bethel Town; two beds will be purchased for the barracks at the Darliston station; and a microwave oven will be acquired for Withorn.

Commissioner of Police, Dr. Carl Williams, expressed appreciation to Minister Montague for the measures outlined.

“I am always happy to have that kind of support from a Minister. He can put policies in place to ensure that what is desired, we actually get, so I am very encouraged,” he said.
