The Minister of Youth and Culture, the Honorable Lisa Hanna, notes with concern yet another news story of a child being sexually abused or ‘trafficked’ in a ring of prostitution.  She said that while the country has made strides in rescuing over twenty girls in child trafficking cases and seven arrests had been made, there is yet to be a conviction for these acts.

The Minister noted that while the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Culture have resulted in a reduction in the number of children that went missing by 10%, and the return of 9 out of 10 children that went missing in 2014, through a bolstered Ananda Alert System and partnerships.

The Ministry of Youth and Culture, now has a partnership with the Jamaica Library Service, (JLS) to assist with the dissemination of Ananda Alert information on missing children in parish library networks, mobile libraries and school libraries under the portfolio of the JLS and as authorized by the school principals. The Minister thanks all partners and urge others to get on board.

The Minister is urging the Agencies to continue their investigation and will provide the nation with a full update once the Child Development Agency (CDA) has completed their investigation.
