Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer says the team of medical and health volunteers has been able to immediately and successfully assist in the effort to provide much needed medical and health support to the people of Haiti.
Since its arrival early Saturday morning (January 16, 2010), the team has conducted surgeries and other procedures as well as had numerous patient consultations. It has also been able to assist with the re-establishment of an Operating Theatre at a Polyclinic in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
The team is working alongside doctors from the United States and is expected to stay in Haiti for seven days. At that time, the Ministry will deploy another team of volunteers as the need arises.
“I want to thank our volunteers who have been doing excellent work in Haiti to help the persons who have been affected by the earthquake. We will continue our efforts to assist in any way we can as we are in it for the long haul,” Minister Spencer said.
