Minister with Responsibility for Sport, the Hon. Natalie Neita Headley has congratulated Jamaica’s national football team, the Reggae Boyz, on their historic 2-1 win against CONCACAF defending champions, the United States.
The CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final match at the Georgia Dome on Wednesday evening was Jamaica’s first victory against a US team on home soil.
Minister Neita Headley issued this statement shortly after the win:
“Tonight we proudly celebrate the successful execution of the lessons learnt through the hard work and dedication of our Reggae Boyz.
It is indeed a great joy to witness this unprecedented advancement of our national team to the finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and our triumphant victory over the USA for the first time on US soil.
I congratulate the team, the coaches and the federation on a job well done. We are on the right path. Let us stay the course and continue to play great football.
