Local Government and Community Development Minister, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, says he is awaiting a report on the fire, which damaged a section of the Brown’s Town Market in St. Ann, Tuesday morning (May 3).
The Minister made the disclosure during a sitting of the Standing Finance Committee in the House of Representatives on May 4.
Approximately 25 stalls were damaged in the early morning blaze, which destroyed a section of the market.
The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
Minister McKenzie said the Ministry will provide “whatever support it can” through the Equalization Fund.
The fund was created in 1997 and is financed by 10 per cent of the money collected islandwide from property taxes.
