Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, has extended an invitation to Jamaicans, both at home and across the globe, to register for the 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference.
Scheduled to be convened June 14 to 18 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James, the event stands as Jamaica’s premier platform for connecting citizens, decision-makers and business leaders to foster national development, partnerships and investments.
Speaking at Wednesday’s (June 3) Post-Cabinet Press Briefing at Jamaica House, Minister Johnson Smith revealed that excitement for the conference is already high.
“Our oversubscribed marketplace continues to have wait-listed businesses that are hoping someone will miss a deadline this week, which will open a spot for them, because excitement is quite high, registrations are going well, and this is really not one to be missed,” Minister Johnson Smith said.
The Minister expressed profound gratitude to the conference’s long-standing and legacy partners and sponsors whose support sustains the vital national platform.
She also lauded members of the diaspora for their generosity in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.
She emphasised that the conference will provide a structured space to channel that goodwill into practical partnerships and lasting impacts.
A major feature of this year’s event will be the Diaspora Day of Service on June 18, which will focus on community rehabilitation.
“We have 20 designated projects, and participants in the conference can register early and volunteer for a project of their choice at bjdc.mfaft.gov.jm,” Minister Johnson Smith informed.
Highlighting that the conference is not exclusively for overseas citizens, Minister Johnson Smith issued a strong call to action for local stakeholders.
“It’s for Jamaicans right here – entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives, investors and community leaders – who want to connect with diaspora investors, global networks, business leaders, and decision-makers. This is the place to make it happen,” she urged, noting that day passes are available for locals looking to explore partnerships and grow their businesses.
Participants can register, book accommodations and sign up for the Day of Service volunteer projects by visiting the official conference website at bjdc.mfaft.gov.jm.
