KINGSTON — The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Olivia Grange, MP has expressed sadness to news that Jamaica's Asafa Powell has been forced to withdraw from the 100 metres at the IAAF World Championships in South Korea because of injury.

Minister Grange said she shared Powell's disappointment at having to withdraw.

Minister Grange said:

“He has worked so hard, and has been doing so well this season, so I know that he must be devastated, as is the entire nation, that he cannot run in the main event of the year.  It wont be the same without Asafa who  can be very proud of what he’s achieved this year.  I hear there is still a chance that he may yet compete in Daegu, and I wish him speedy recovery."
