The Full Story

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, has received the 2025 Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Equality and Diversity Award.

This is in recognition of her transformational and inclusive leadership in advancing gender equality and social justice in Jamaica.

Speaking in the House of Representatives recently, Minister Grange said she was humbled by the recognition and thanked the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association for the award.

“This means so much to me,” Minister Grange said.

She noted that an equitable society can only exist when its members are afforded the opportunity to maximise their potential without fear or restrictions.

“Jamaica has come a far away in the fight for gender equality, but we still have a way to go, so let us continue to strive for a Jamaican society that protects and empowers all its citizens – men, women or our boys and our girls,” she said.

In congratulating Minister Grange, Deputy House Leader and Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for Works, Hon. Robert Morgan, said the award is a recognition of her significant contribution to gender equality and diversity not just in Jamaica but globally.

“She has led the development and implementation of our national strategic action plan to eliminate gender-based violence and has piloted significant pieces of legislation such as the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act 2021 and the Domestic Violence Amendment Act in 2023,” he pointed out.
