The Full Story

STATEMENT BY
THE HONOURABLE MS. OLIVIA GRANGE, M.P.

AT THE

UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY
HIGH-LEVEL MEETING ON YOUTH

UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS
NEW YORK
25-26 JULY 2011

Mr. President,
Secretary General,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Representatives,

The Government and People of Jamaica, join other speakers in conveying our deepest sympathies and solidarity with the people of Norway in the wake of the recent tragic events.

Jamaica aligns itself with the statement to be made by Argentina on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and by Suriname on behalf of the Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

I also take this opportunity to congratulate the United Nations for their work it has done in the Latin American hemisphere in advancing the welfare of young people, and I urge the UN to redouble its collaboration with the Caribbean sub-region. We look forward to strengthening levels of cooperation with the UN Programme on Youth.
