Minister Buchanan assumes Works Portfolio

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing welcomes the temporary assignment of Minister of State the Hon. Luther Buchanan to oversee the Works Portfolio of the Ministry.  Minister Buchanan’s new role takes effect today (October 8, 2013) with primary oversight for the National Works Agency (NWA). The NWA is the entity of the Ministry with responsibility for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the island’s main road network, as well as over 700 bridges.

Minister of Transport, Works and Housing Dr. the Hon. Omar Davies says he is delighted to have Minister Buchanan on board as he has proven himself as a tireless and stridently dedicated public servant. Minister Davies further notes his profound ability to connect with people making him the most fitting choice for this latest assignment.

Mr. Buchanan takes on the supplementary role in the Ministry having been appointed in January 2012 as Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Special Projects and Assignments.  First elected a Councillor some ten years ago in the Westmoreland Parish Council, Mr. Buchanan went on to win the 2006 by-election in Eastern Westmoreland and has since remained Member of Parliament for the constituency.
