The Full Story

The Management Institute for National Development (MIND), will host its 13th Annual Public Lecture on Thursday, March 30. The lecture will take place at the Life of Jamaica Auditorium in New Kingston, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the speaker is Research Fellow at the Mona School of Business, Professor Barry Chevannes.
For this year, the theme of the lecture will be -‘Violence Prevention: A Community Response’.
According to Director of Communication and Human Resource Development, Norman Hall, the theme was selected, “because it expresses an issue of national concern and is one that demands the active support of all Jamaicans”.
Speaking with JIS News, Mr. Hall said the lecture would “provide for a broad cross section of the public to be exposed to MIND and its various products, while providing an opportunity for discourse on a contemporary national issue”.
Professor Chevannes, who has done extensive research on various aspects of Caribbean society, including Rastafarianism, culture and male gender issues, is well known for his involvement in public service. He chairs the Council of the Institute of Jamaica, and is the founder of Fathers Incorporated, an organization which seeks to enhance parenting practices among Jamaican men.
Acting in support of sustainable development in Jamaica, MIND has organized the lecture to extend its reach and relevance to the nation. Members of the public are urged to attend the event, which is free of charge.
