Minister of Industry, Investment & Commerce Karl Samuda leaves the island today for London at the head of a trade and investment mission aimed at stimulating demand for Jamaican products in the international market; generating new Foreign Direct Investments into the island and creating partnerships between stakeholders in Jamaica and the U. K.
The Minister will be accompanied by a team from Jamaica’s Trade and Investment Agency – JAMPRO – headed by its President Sancia Templer.
Over the next five days, the Minister and the JAMPRO Team will participate in a range of investment and promotional activities, including an International Food and Drink Trade Show and a Jamaica–U.K. Investment Forum in London which will seek to explain steps being taken by Government to maintain a stable economic environment. The Forum will also provide an understanding of Jamaica’s financial sector to European investment banks; and will outline to European companies intending to expand operations, the benefits of establishing business in Jamaica.
In Birmingham, Minister Samuda will participate in the launch of Meet Jamaica in London 2012 – a JAMPRO/PSOJ initiative to increase trade opportunities in the U.K. and Europe for Jamaican brand leaders and emerging exporters, through specially targeted missions and events over the next 18-months.
The Minister and the investment team will also attend a Meet Jamaica Trade and Business Exposition co-hosted by the Birmingham City Council, before returning to Jamaica on Saturday March 19th.
