The Jamaica Midlife Health Society will be hosting a public lecture on ‘Maximising Sexual Health in Your Mid-Life Years’ on Friday, October 16 at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston.
Public Relations Officer of the organisation, Dr. Fay Whitbourne, who provided details about the event at a JIS Think Tank yesterday (Oct. 7) informed that activities will get underway at 6:00 p.m. with a display of “over the counter products”, which will be available for purchase.
The lecture, which starts at 7:00 p.m., will comprise three presentations followed by a question and answer period. “I know these sessions allow people to ask questions that they have long wanted to ask their doctor but never got a chance to, so this is your opportunity to come and do that,” Dr. Whitbourne implored.
The presenters are Psychologist and Clinical Sexologist, Dr. Karen Carpenter, who will speak on the topic: ‘Could it be mind over matter?’; Consultant Urologist, Dr. Richard Mayhew will address ‘Male performance concerns’; while Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Charles Rockhead, will speak on ‘Rejuvenating the female genitalia’.
The cost for members of the public, who wish to attend the lecture is $500 and medical personnel will pay $1,000.
The Jamaica Midlife Health Society works to improve the well-being of Jamaicans 45 to 60 years, who are considered to be in midlife.
“Our interest in midlife health is really to let the population know that it is like a second chance,” said Dr. Whitbourne, who is a Family Practitioner and Menopause Management Specialist.
“It’s a time to really take stock of ourselves and see what it is we were doing wrong and what it is we can correct and we really want to emphasise the importance of a healthy lifestyle, exercise, good nutrition and keeping our weight stable,” she added.
