    Story Highlights

    • I commend you on the quality of the contribution which you continue to make by keeping the many publics informed and by encouraging thoughtful analysis of issues which affect us all as citizens. The Association has recognized its responsibility to advance the upholding of our democratic principles and increasingly, through its members,to give voice to those who wish to share in public dialogue.
    • This year’s theme addresses a critical element of our development as a people. In focusing on “Modern Ethics and Modern Media”, it draws attention to the importance of principles, values and professionalism on the one hand and on the other, the power, the opportunities and the challenges of modern technology and new approaches now being experienced by the “Fourth Estate.”
    • Long may you continue to preserve the best of our traditions while you embrace the need for innovation, efficiency, relevance and sustainability.

It gives me great pleasure to greet the Officers and members of the Press Association of Jamaica(PAJ) as you meet to give thanks for achievements recorded and to recommit to the work which you are empowered to do. I regret sincerely that my schedule does not allow me the pleasure of joining you in this service which marks the start of National Journalism Week.

People are at the heart of your success, dependent as it is on the quality of the media practitioners, and the ongoing training which your Association provides. It is to the credit of the PAJ and the society as a whole that Jamaica continues to rank very highly on the scales of Press Freedom internationally.

Long may you continue to preserve the best of our traditions while you embrace the need for innovation, efficiency, relevance and sustainability.

I wish for you a productive week of activities and another year of success.

May God bless you all and bless your service to our island home, Jamaica, land we love.
