There will be a memorial service for former Olympian, Keith Gardner, on Monday, June 25 starting at 10:00a.m., the University Chapel, Mona.
Mr. Gardner gained medals as a sprinter, and also a long jumper, at international games, including the Olympics. After retiring from competition, Mr. Gardner was highly involved in sports development in Jamaica.
He was the Coach/Administrator at Excelsior High School; an official for the Jamaican Constabulary Force sports programmes and the Youth Development Agency; and the Sports Director at the University of the West Indies. For his many years of outstanding service, he was recognised with the Order of Distinction in 1982.
In the 1990s through to the 2000s, Mr. Gardner gave dedicated service to the Multi-care Foundation in downtown Kingston, teaching life skills, community involvement and education, through sports.
The funeral for Mr. Gardner was held by his family in the USA some weeks ago. The memorial service is being organised by groups that benefitted from his service in the field of sports.
