The National Works Agency (NWA) will commence work on the May Pen to Sour Sop Turn Road Extension Project in Clarendon in 2019.
This was disclosed by Senior NWA Communications Officer, Ramona Lawson, during an interview with JIS News.
The Agency has earmarked $1.6 billion dollars for the project, which will see the road being extended towards the town centre.
“We will be looking to improve the road surface, widen the road to include shoulders and sidewalks, and improve safety features such as barriers and retaining walls,” Ms. Lawson said.
The proposed work on the 8.5-kilometre thoroughfare also includes geometric realignment, the construction of bus bays, and improved traffic management and upgraded drainage facilities.
The project will be executed under the Government of Jamaica Rural Road Rehabilitation Programme.
