KINGSTON — Plans are well advanced for the roll-out of a state owned bus service in May Pen, Clarendon.

Minister of Transport and Works, Hon. Michael Henry said the plans for the bus service are among several projects for the development of the Rural/Urban Transport Plan.

“The introduction of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) type service to May Pen is imminent and which has already (assigned) its routes and is looking to be implemented by June,” the Minister said.

Mr. Henry was speaking yesterday, at a post-budget press briefing at the Ministry’s Maxfield Avenue head office, in Kingston.

“We will be rolling out with May Pen, then with Ocho Rios then with Santa Cruz and then Christiana,” he said, adding that this will impact on the school bus service and the integration of zoning in these areas.

He noted that the rural/urban transport programme will be rolled out in stages, adding that the system seeks to bring uniformity and standards, similar to that of the JUTC, into other sections of the island.
