Marlin Tournament Gets Off To Smooth Start

The 40th Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament got off to a smooth start yesterday (September 29).The tournament, which will last until Friday, October 3, was officially opened by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Howard Cooke, at the Old Port Antonio Marina.
Approximately 21 yachts and 83 anglers are participating in the tournament. Another event, the Local Canoe Tournament, will be held on Wednesday, October 1, which will also be a rest day for the anglers. In launching the tournament, the Governor-General welcomed the anglers to Port Antonio, and encouraged them to enjoy the best of what the town has to offer. He assured them of the hospitality of the people of Port Antonio, and Portland in general, and spoke about the attractions of the parish.Sir Howard expressed confidence that the tournament would achieve the same level of success as in former years. He commended the residents of Port Antonio for the support they have given over the years, noting that this support was a critical factor in guaranteeing the tournament’s success.
