An energy-efficient smart TV; an inverter microwave and energy gift baskets are some of the prizes up for grabs in the 2018 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme (EECP) Energy Champion Competition for students and public servants.
The competition, which will award winners monthly from October to December, requires entrants to ‘like’ any of the EECP’s social media pages, and to post either a dub poem, a video, jingle or photograph of themselves conserving energy.
All posts must include the slogan ‘ease up on energy’, as well as the hashtag #energychampionja, #eecp or #pcj.
Winners will be selected based on ‘likes’ or ‘loves’ and they must accumulate at least 60 likes within the month of posting to qualify.
Project Manager of the EECP, Jody Grizzle, explained to JIS News that the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), which sponsors the competition, has targeted the youth in an effort to train and stimulate positive behaviour towards energy from early, which she said will translate into greater rewards when they get older.
She noted that the Government is aiming for a culture change, and this competition is part of that strategy.
“We must invest in the youth, as this will pay off and benefit them later in life,” Miss Grizzle said.
