The Full Story

Past students of the Manning’s School in Westmoreland are being urged to contribute to the institution’s wellness centre rebuilding project.

The facility, which was destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 28, will benefit from the proceeds of the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast (NLPB) held on January 15 at the Boulevard Baptist Church in St. Andrew.

Speaking with JIS News, Treasurer of the Kingston Chapter of the Manning’s School Past Students’ Association, Jonathan Brown, said the group is grateful for the support, noting that it will go a far way in raising the $3 million needed to undertake the restoration project.

He is appealing to past students and friends of the institution to complement the donation from the NLPB.

“So, we are going to need the support of past students and well-wishers of the school to help us. The cost is roughly $3 million, and we are going to need the help,” Mr. Brown told JIS News at the Prayer Breakfast.

He said that persons wishing to contribute to the effort can do so through the Manning’s School Past Students’ Association account at NCB Oxford Road Branch –#214139464.
Contributions can also be made through the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast Committee’s account at VMBS, account number 22684518.

For his part, Chief Executive Officer of the VM Group, Courtney Campbell, said the institution, which is the main sponsor of the prayer breakfast, was pleased to partner with the Manning’s School Past Students Association, and the NLPB to support the wellness centre.

“Manning’s has done an exceptional job over many centuries providing quality education, and they have some bright young people attending that school, so it is a privilege,” he told JIS News.

The annual NLPB brings leaders together in unity, fellowship and prayer for the welfare of Jamaica. Every year, the resources raised go towards supporting a selected charity on the island.

The 2026 NLPB was held under the theme ‘Caring for Our Neighbours’, with a focus on compassion, service, and rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa.

Delivering the sermon, Senior Pastor at the Hope Gospel Assembly, the Reverend Dr. Peter Garth implored persons of goodwill to “continue our efforts to restore lives and rebuild homes. Let us respond to the urgent need of our brothers and sisters in Jamaica. Let us care for our neighbours. We are responsible for keeping the unity of the spirit in the bond of Jesus. Let us pledge to be persons who bring blessings to others,” he said.
