Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, has announced that several major projects will be completed and new initiatives will commence in the constituency of St. Andrew West Central.
“In a few more weeks, we will complete and hand over two new multi-family housing solutions under the New Social Housing Programme (NSHP) to replace two dilapidated tenements, and we will begin construction of three additional multi-family housing solutions, including one in the community of Belrock, to replace houses destroyed by fire in 2024,” he said.
Dr. Holness, who is the Member of Parliament, was making his contribution to the 2026/27 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday (March 19).
He further informed that work will continue on the development of the St. Paul’s Lane community, including the construction of a golden age home and new sporting facilities.
Construction will also commence on parks with sporting facilities to benefit residents of the Simmonds Park and Mall Road communities.
“Rehabilitation and repair works are slated to begin in a few weeks for the Olympic Court Housing Scheme under the NHT (National Housing Trust) Housing Scheme Rehabilitation Programme,” Dr. Holness advised.
“Shortly, we will open the Olympic Gardens Community Cultural Centre, and we will start the upgrade of the Cling Cling Oval. I [also] have good news for the people of Drewsland, residing along the banks of the Sandy Gully. Repairs will begin on the collapsed sewer main and compromised retaining walls that pose a health and safety hazard to residents,” he added.
Dr. Holness noted that significant investments continue to be made in the communities each year, adding that crime has declined, business activity has increased, and the Olympic Way Hip Strip remains vibrant.
“There is still significant work to be done. Nevertheless, the constituency is progressing, and every year is better than the year before,” he stated.
