Major improvements continue to be undertaken to upgrade sewerage and water systems across Kingston and St. Andrew, according to Mayor, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams.
He advised that the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), with the assistance of the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, has completed and will continue to undertake work to improve the infrastructure.
Senator Williams provided the update on the projects during his contribution to the 2023/24 State of the Nation Debate in the Senate recently.
Projects completed include the Spanish Town Road Transmission Pipeline Replacement – Six Miles to Blake Road/South Camp Road; Waltham Park Road/Whitfield Town pipeline replacement, and the Montgomery Corner Well Drilling, Development and Yield Testing.

Meanwhile, the Mayor disclosed that the KSAMC received more than 4,500 building applications between 2019 and 2023.
He pointed out that this was important, as even when the COVID-19 pandemic was crippling economic activity in many industries, the municipality played its part and ensured that the construction industry was able to continue.
“The ROK Hotel, AC Hotel, R Hotel, The Courtyard Marriott were all constructed and opened under this Administration. The Foreign Affairs Office, the GraceKennedy Head Office, the residential apartments at 10 Waterloo Avenue which is to be the tallest building in Jamaica, 20th South Residential Suites, and commercial suites across the city are just a few of the major building initiatives since 2016,” he said.
Senator Williams noted the Church Street Transformation Project has commenced and is slated for completion by the end of April 2024.
“We have also done work on paving and road rehabilitation works along Beeston Street, Charles Street, King Street and Water and Temple Lanes, to name a few,” he added.
The Mayor further informed that the Cross Roads Clocktower Square and Miss Lou Square (formerly Gordon Town Square) have been completed.
