The Full Story

Central Kingston is experiencing a major reduction is crime, which is transforming the area into a safer more stable community.

Member of Parliament and State Minister for Labour and Social Security, Hon. Donovan Williams, said that four murders have been recorded since January, representing a massive drop from up to 50 murders annually in previous years.

He said the improved environment had allowed churches to remain open, nightlife to return and children to play in parks and on the streets.

Mr. Williams, who was speaking during the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 13), attributed the improved security situation, in part, to the introduction of a Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) in January 2022.

Of the four murders recorded this year, one occurred in Allman Town, two in Parade Gardens, and one in Rose Gardens.

Franklin Town has recorded no murders for the past two years, while Rae Town had one in 2025, and none so far in 2026.

Mr. Williams credited the work of the Ministry of National Security and Peace, Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), and organisations such as Yard Empire, Social Development Commission (SDC), and Project STAR.

He also recognised the contribution of international non-governmental organisation (NGO) Heavenly Culture, World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL), alongside churches and residents, for supporting peace-building initiatives.
