Major changes have been proposed for United Kingdom (UK) immigration and visa regulations next year. The British Home Office today (December 18) announced a consultation to seek the views on a proposed tightening of the rules on visitors’ visas that could fundamentally alter the way people are allowed to visit Britain.
A press release from the UK Home Office said the proposed changes would include: reducing the length of time a tourist can stay in the UK to three months from the current six months; creating a specific business and specialist visa; requiring people to make a refundable financial deposit, designed to ensure that any foreign national family members visiting them return home before their visa expires; and creating a specific visa for one-off events, such as the Olympics.
