The Ministry of Local Government and Community Development is undertaking rehabilitation work on several entities in St. Elizabeth that suffered damage during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
These include markets, fire stations, community centres operated by the Social Development Commission (SDC), and the infirmary.
“We had a number of markets right around the parish [that were impacted],” said Portfolio Minister, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, during a tour of the parish on Saturday (August 10).
“We have started, in some cases, the rehabilitation work on some, and we are now concluding estimates on other buildings as the information comes in,” he further indicated.
The Minister’s tour of St. Elizabeth was to get a first-hand look at the damage caused by the hurricane and distribute essential supplies to residents.
The team stopped at Flagaman, Parottee, and Hill Top, which were among the hardest-hit areas, where they handed out igloos, ice, water, care packages, blankets, and solar lamps.
Minister McKenzie said the response underscores the Government’s commitment to restoring normalcy to the parish, which was severely impacted by the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
