The Full Story

Government Senator and Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams, says the Administration continues to put local government at the centre of its development agenda.

“Housing projects are inextricably linked to local government; housing projects do not happen without local government. Commercial activity does not happen without local government. Major infrastructural developments do not happen without local government. In fact, all development areas are subject to local government and its approval processes, whether it be big or small, expensive, or not so expensive,” Senator Williams said.

The Mayor informed that since 2016, a total of 37,577 applications have been received for processing across municipalities.

He pointed out that the value of the approved applications is approximately $1.5 trillion.

Senator Williams was making his contribution to the State of the Nation Debate in the Senate, on January 26.

“The local government apparatus, therefore, has an indispensable role in executing the Administration’s prosperity plan. This model reinforces the importance and increasing impact of local government in the country’s transformative journey,” the Mayor said.

“Through policy initiatives, local government has profoundly impacted our communities by bolstering and evolving institutions crucial for national resilience and progress,” he added.

Senator Williams said the work of Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie and his team has laid the groundwork for further achievements.
