The Ministry of National Security on Friday (May 31) officially launched its much anticipated ‘Let’s All Liv Gud’ Activity Book for students.
The books were created as part of the ministry’s anti-violence campaign ‘Liv Gud’ and were designed and printed by the Jamaica Information Service (JIS).
Delivering the main address at the launch, held at Curphey Place in Kingston, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Hon. Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, said that the book was a powerful instrument designed to help children understand and embrace the principles of non-violence.
“It is filled with fun activities, colourful illustrations, and engaging stories that make learning about peace and kindness an enjoyable adventure. Through artwork, the Ministry hopes to reach into the hearts and minds of young children. We want each of you to know that being kind, respectful, and peaceful is the foundation of a happy and successful life,” Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn said.
The State Minister also encouraged the children who were in attendance, that they should read the book with curiosity and enthusiasm.
“Each page you turn is a step towards making Jamaica a better place. As you explore the stories and activities, think about how you can apply these lessons in your own life. Remember, every kind word you say, every good deed you do, and every moment you choose peace over conflict, you are helping to build a safer, more loving community for everyone,” she stated.
For her part, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ambassador Alison Stone Roofe, noted that the book has the power to inspire, educate and entertain.
“We celebrate not just the launch of this book but the birth of new ideas, new perspectives and new possibilities. We celebrate the creative minds behind this initiative and the positive impact we hope to have on those who will come in contact with this book,” Ambassador Stone Roofe noted.
Other speakers at the event were Senior Education Officer, Early Childhood Policy, Evelyn Walden-West and representative from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Community Safety and Security Branch, Sergeant Andrew Williams.
Director of Safety and Security in Schools in the Ministry of Education and Youth, Richard Troupe, was also present.
During the launch, 14 students, selected from various schools across the corporate area, were named Liv Gud Mini Ambassadors.
It is anticipated the books will be distributed in the 35 school zones which the Ministry currently operates, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Youth, and Ministry of Health and Wellness, under an inter-ministerial framework.
