Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, says Jamaica’s latest credit grading by Fitch Ratings reflects the country’s robust governance, significant progress in debt reduction and a favourable economic growth trajectory.

The globally respected agency last week reaffirmed Jamaica’s credit rating at ‘BB-’, with a ‘Positive’ outlook.

“This positive outlook indicates potential for an upgrade if the country continues its fiscal discipline and economic reforms; and I know this Administration is committed to continuing that fiscal discipline,” Dr. Morris Dixon said.

She was speaking during Wednesday’s (February 26) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

Senator Morris Dixon said the rating also highlights Jamaica’s resilience in managing external shocks.

“It’s a big deal for our country and… all Jamaicans should celebrate what all of us have done. It’s not just the Administration; its all of us collectively [who] have done this,” she stated.

Senator Morris Dixon also underscored the global prominence enjoyed by Fitch, noting that they rank among the big three credit rating agencies alongside Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s (S&P).
