The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will undertake work at the Franklin Town Primary School and Sir William Grant Monument on Labour Day, Monday, May 25, 2026.
Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Andrew Swaby, made the disclosure during Tuesday’s (May 12) meeting of the KSAMC, downtown Kingston.
He said that the projects are also in observance of Africa Day, which will be commemorated across the globe on May 25.
“In recognition of this alignment, the KSAMC has taken the decision to combine both observances incorporating Africa Day with our Labour Day initiative,” he noted.
“The KSAMC will undertake work at the Franklin Town Primary School in the Allman Town Division, which was represented by the Rt. Excellent Marcus Garvey. We will be repairing the sanitary facilities there. The other is the St. William Grant Monument at Brandon Hill Square in the Brandon Hill Division where we will focus on the beautification of the space and repair a cattle facility. Both Marcus Garvey and Sir William Grant were well known Pan Africanists,” he added.
Labour Day 2026 is being observed under the theme ‘Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safer Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goal of Agenda 2063’.
Activities in Kingston and St. Andrew will focus on improving public spaces and facilities and promoting the importance of sustainable water access and proper sanitation as an essential pillar of healthy and resilient communities.
