The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has activated its December employment-generation programme with a $2.5-million allocation to each division, targeting community-improvement works across the municipality during the holiday period.
The initiative is projected to generate short-term employment while delivering visible community enhancements across the municipality during the month.
Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Andrew Swaby, informed that $1.5 million has been allocated by the KSAMC, with an additional $1 million provided by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development.
Speaking during the KSAMC’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 9, the Mayor underscored that all works will be subject to strict oversight.
“I have given clear instructions to the City Engineer’s Department to ensure that every project is carried out with full transparency, strict accountability, and the highest value for money. It is essential that the resources entrusted to us are used efficiently and effectively, so that the residents of Kingston and St. Andrew will see real improvements in their communities,” Councillor Swaby said.
He further urged Councillors to maintain close engagement as the programme is implemented across their divisions.
“Monitor the work in your respective divisions and engage with the teams on the ground. We want to ensure that the employment-generation programme for December delivers tangible benefits, strengthens public confidence in the KSAMC, and demonstrates our commitment to good governance and service to the people,” Mayor Swaby stated.
