April 7, 2004

The Full Story

Lovers of kite flying in St. Ann and neighbouring parishes are invited to the St. Ann Kite Festival and Family Fun Day, to be held at the Seville Heritage Park, St. Ann’s Bay, on Easter Monday, April 12.On display will be different types of kites, including the box kite, the boat kite, the traditional 50-cent shaped kite, as well as kites from as far as Indonesia.
The event, which will be put on by the Friends Promotion Youth Club in Priory, St. Ann, will also feature music by the ‘Mello Phonic’, bounce-about, merry-go-round, go-cart racing, and bun-eating, dancing and singing contests, especially for young persons.
In an interview with JIS News, the club’s Vice-President, Junior West, said the objective of the kite festival was to facilitate persons in the parish who used to attend the annual event at Drax Hall in the parish.
“This event is not being held there anymore and persons are still looking forward to the event,” he said.
Mr. West pointed out that proceeds from the event would go toward assisting the senior citizens clubs, as well as the basic schools in the area. “Most of the support will be coming from school children and parents, and so we promise to give back in order to help these institutions,” he added.
