KINGSTON — The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will be extending its services on Independence Day, Saturday August 6 to facilitate persons getting home after the Grand Gala at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The extension of the service will see buses running past their regular hours on select routes. These include, those running between the National Stadium and the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre.
Some buses will travel from the National Stadium directly to Portmore, Spanish Town and Harbour View. This special service, however, will cost consumers $100, a minor adjustment to the normal rate of $80. Buses on other routes will run normally, as scheduled.
Marketing and sales Manager at JUTC, Lenworth Simms, told JIS News that the adjustments will be of significant benefit to patrons who wanted to attend the Grand Gala, but were worried about getting home.
"We're going to be providing sufficient buses to ensure that they can get home safely," he assured.
Mr. Simms has advised that the buses will be available at locations within a short walking distance from the National Stadium.
"Those buses that are going to Spanish Town, to the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre and to Portmore will be located on Arthur Wint Drive. Those going to Harbour View will be located on Mountain View Avenue," he explained. .
He added that the buses will be clearly marked, having directional signs indicating what direction they will be heading.
“We should be putting out an additional 11 to 15 buses…These are going to be devoted specifically to carrying people who would have enjoyed themselves at the Grand Gala,” he said.
