The Full Story
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) is collaborating with Palace Resorts and Delta Airlines to sponsor Jamaica Promotional Day at New York’s Yankee Stadium on Friday, August 7, when the New York Yankees play the Toronto Blue Jays in a baseball game.
Some 49,000 patrons, who are expected to attend the game, will have a chance to win airline tickets, courtesy of Delta Airlines, and a holiday in Jamaica, staying at the recently opened Moon Palace Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The event, billed as Jamaica’s Promotional Day, will expose a host of VIPs, meeting planners, tour operators, patrons and media to the Jamaican experience. The collaboration is expected to boost arrivals to Jamaica by some 300 visitors from the Northeast market during the upcoming fall season.
Director of Tourism, Paul Pennycooke, said the partnership among the JTB, Delta Airlines and Palace Resorts will bring great awareness to destination Jamaica and should result in the country reaping the benefits during the upcoming fall season.
“We anticipate that this collaboration will boost arrivals from the Northeast market during the upcoming fall season. Jamaica is now increasingly attracting a more affluent visitor demographic like the New York Yankees fan base, which is why this partnership feels like a home run,” he said
Meanwhile, Kathy Halpern, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Palace Resort, the parent company for Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, told JIS News that the partnership is seeking to tap into the wide demographic of citizens who are interested in visiting Jamaica and who follow the sport of baseball and support the two clubs involved.
She said the event is aimed firstly at promoting Jamaica and a tourist destination and by extension promote the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, which was taken over by Palace Resorts last year.
“The concept is to promote Jamaica as well as to promote Moon Palace Jamaica Grande. Part of the promotion is the take-over of the stadium. We are bringing in the media, meeting planners, tour operators, airline partners and travel agents to celebrate Jamaica Promotional Day,” Ms. Halpern said.
She explained that leading up to the game on Friday, “we will be doing a number of promotions via social media, which are primarily aimed at bringing more awareness to the lovely island of Jamaica and of course our first resort in the Caribbean, Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, through a promotion called ‘Grand Slam’.”
The winner of the promotion will receive airline tickets, courtesy of Delta Airlines, and an all inclusive vacation at Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, with the JTB coordinating their travel to Jamaica. In addition, there will be several other runner-up prizes during the promotion.
The first 18,000 patrons at Friday’s game will receive a co-branded beach bag, courtesy of the JTB, Moon Palace Jamaica Grande and Delta Airlines.
