The Full Story

KINGSTON — Justice Minister, Hon. Delroy Chuck, is urging  Justices of the Peace (JPs) to be more pro-active in promoting and instilling good values within the society.

The Minister said that JPs islandwide should go out and generate leadership in the various communities.

Speaking  at a recent restorative  justice sensitisation forum at the Morant Bay  Parish Church in St. Thomas, Mr. Chuck  said the “vast majority” of JPs exhibit the moral uprightness and principles on which the country can advance.

"I know that you are very concerned about some of the values that are being generated by deejays, area leaders, some politicians, and also by the people who are not generating the values on which Jamaica can be built. Many of you are interested in how we can restore Jamaica back to a place where  we can live, work and   enjoy sanctity within our communities," he told the JPs in attendance.

"You  are the people who uphold the good values, and unless it is generated by you and promoted by you, then you will understand that it cannot (take hold)," the Minister added.

Mr.  Chuck said that the island has a great challenge and the people will have to take back the country.

"The JPs will now have to empower themselves…have a network amongst yourselves, to see how you can move as a team within your districts, within your communities, within your parishes, to let Jamaica be a place that all of us can be proud of," the Minister said.
