JIS Presents Heritage Package to Bolt’s Old School

October 14, 2011

The Full Story

KINGSTON — As part of its activities for Heritage Week, the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) visited Waldensia Primary School, in Sherwood Content, Trelawny, the alma mater of the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, on October 12.

Members of the JIS team presented a heritage package to the school, and Director of Corporate Services at the JIS, Errol Gardner, spoke to the students about the National Heroes and Heroine and how hard they worked for the freedom of Jamaicans.

He even engaged them in a quiz to see how knowledgeable they were about which heroes are found on the Jamaican notes. This they did with ease as the students excitedly shouted the names of the heroes from memory.

The JIS team was welcomed by the Principal, Dwight Beryl, who expressed delight at their presence. “I’m so happy that you all came,” he said. He also expressed gratitude for the package.

From there the JIS team journeyed to the Springfield High School in St. James, where they also presented a heritage package to the students.

The students also benefitted from the engaging PowerPoint presentation of

Mr. Gardner and were told that even they can become heroes in their own way.
