The Full Story

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) will be seeking to achieve ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification for its network of police stations islandwide.

Commissioner of Police, Dr. Kevin Blake, made the disclosure while participating in the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James on June 17.

“Our journey and our intention is to certify every police station right across the country. It has never been undertaken anywhere, whether it is in policing or any other industry, a scope of this size,” he said.

The JCF is comprised of five Area Headquarters, 19 Divisional Headquarters, 190 stations, and four recruiting centres.

Dr. Blake, who said the drive is part of its commitment to improving its quality management system, pointed out that the JCF is now in the final of the three-year ISO 9001 certification of its services and sites.

In addition, the Police Commissioner said the JCF is now seeking accreditation for the National Police College of Jamaica.

“We have embarked on a programme to seek institution accreditation for the National Police College of Jamaica. That is a pretty long journey, but we are making significant strides where that is concerned,” he noted.

Significantly, Dr. Blake revealed that the JCF has been recommended for accreditation by the prestigious International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).

“Last week Thursday (June 13), we completed an external audit seeking accreditation for IADLEST, and we have been recommended for accreditation by IADLEST, making us 24 of over 300 institutions to ever achieve that,” the Commissioner noted.
