The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) expects to hit the 500mark for entries in the Jamaica Visual Arts Competition and Exhibition this year.

Director for Marketing and Public Relations at JCDC, Stephen Davidson, told JIS News that the “number (of entries) has been in the 400s (in the past), so (JCDC is) hoping to hit the 500 mark in terms of entries.”

Persons interested in the competition have until January 15 to submit their completed entry forms and artwork in the categories of ceramics, fibre arts, painting, photography, sculpture/assemblage, video art, or works on paper.

Mr. Davidson said the artwork will be showcased from April 10 to May 8 at Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston, which is a two-week extension of the usual display period. The awards ceremony will be held on the final day of the exhibition.

A number of activities will be held at the conference centre during the exhibition period such as a Student Arts Day Out for schools and an Arts Olympics. The JCDC will also offer workshops and special seminars with experts in the field of visual arts.

Mr. Davidson said there are plans to take the exhibition to another parish.
