JCDC Invites All Jamaicans to Participate in Heritage Week Activities

Director of Community Cultural Development Services at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Marjorie Leyden-Kirton, is inviting all Jamaicans to participate in the various events during Heritage Week.
Several activities have been planned at both parish and national levels, ensuring there is something for everyone.
The festivities kick off with the National Heritage Week Thanksgiving Church Service on Sunday, October 20, at the Highholborn Street Church of God, located at 55 Highholborn Street, Parade Gardens, Kingston.
In addition, parishes across the island will host their own Thanksgiving services.
For St. Catherine, the service will be held at the New Life Tabernacle, Linstead; in Clarendon, at the Berean Church of God International, Four Paths; St. Mary, Mount Angus Baptist Church, Gayle; Westmoreland, Grange Hill New Testament Church of God; and Hanover, Lucea Baptist Church. There will also be services in Portland, at the Port Antonio Baptist Church; Trelawny, Duncans Tabernacle Church; St. Ann, Moving Church of God Inc., St. James, Holiness Born Again Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic; St. Thomas, New Testament Church of God, Morant Bay; Manchester, New Forest Church of God of Prophecy; St. Elizabeth: Mulgrave New Testament Church of God, Mulgrave District. Celebrations for National Heroes Day (October 21), will commence with the National Floral Tribute at Heroes Park, starting at 8:00 a.m.
This will be followed by the Ceremony of Investiture and Presentation of National Honours and Awards at King’s House, where 232 Jamaicans will be recognised for their significant contributions to national development.
There will also be Flag Raising, Civic and Awards ceremonies in parish capitals on National Heroes Day.
Ms. Leyden-Kirton also disclosed exciting post-Heritage Week activities.
On October 24, the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Library will host the Heritage Jamboree on its grounds, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Meanwhile, the St. Mary Parish Library will hold the St. Mary Culture Fest at Stuart Park, Port Maria, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Heritage celebrations will culminate with a Heritage Culinary Extravaganza at the Montego Bay Cultural Centre, located at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay.
