JBDC’s Small Business Expo Next Wednesday

May 1, 2009

The Full Story

The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) will host its second annual one-day small business exposition, at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, on Wednesday May 6.
Dubbed “Your Business, Our Business…How Can We Help You?”, the event is part of the JBDC’s thrust to facilitate the sustainable development of micro and small enterprises in Jamaica.
Public Relations Officer at the JBDC, Sancia Campbell, told JIS News that the expo will feature an interesting mix of presentations and displays, geared specifically to prospective and existing entrepreneurs seeking information to assist them in start-ups, or improvements to existing businesses.
“We are pulling together all the stakeholders, who are a part of the small business industry, under one roof, so that persons can come out to get information on how they can improve their existing businesses. Or, if they are interested in starting a business, they can be walked through the process,” Miss Campbell said.
She added that entities such as the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ), Scientific Research Council (SRC), Bureau of Standards, National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Access Financial will be in attendance to explain the importance of utilising their services, and how critical it is for them to be involved in the sustainability of the business.
Topics to be explored include: ‘Screening a Business Idea – Is Business Really for Me’; ‘The EPA & the CSME – How Can It Benefit Me Now’; ‘The Business of Agriculture’; and, ‘The Role of the Media in Small Business Development and Options for Financing’.
Miss Campbell urged persons to participate in the initiative, noting that it can allow them to improve and grow their businesses, and be introduced to agencies and stakeholders who can assist them in the process. The Expo will run from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is free of cost.
