The Full Story

The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), in conjunction with Sagicor Bank, will be engaging entrepreneurs in a series of events over a one-week period, from November 13 to 19.

The week, which is recognised both locally and internationally as Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) will be celebrated under the theme ‘GEW D.R.I.V.E. – Developing Rich Industry Value Chains for Export’.

To set things in motion for the Week, the agency will be having an 8:45 a.m. Church Service at the Portmore New Testament Church of God, Port Henderson Road, on Sunday, November 12.

On Monday, November 13, there will be a Business Dialogue Forum and Agro-Processing Exhibition. Attendees will also get to watch contestants in the Jamaica Harvest Specialty Food Challenge showcase their creations using pumpkin as the main ingredient.

From Tuesday, November 14 to Thursday, November 15, there will be an Essential Oils Opportunity Hour and Demo Day; Fashion and Artisanal Showcase as well as a Raising Capital Mini-Business Exposition.

All events from November 13 to 16 will be held at the JBDC Incubator & Resource Centre, located at Unit 10a, 76 Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston.

The week will conclude on Friday, November 17 with a pre-Christmas trade show as part of the JBDC’s ‘Things Jamaica’ 60th anniversary celebrations.

This will be held at the agency’s head office at 14 Camp Road, Kingston 4.

Persons interested in attending the events, may complete the various registration forms on the JBDC website at https://www.jbdc.net/gew2023/.

Through these events, the JBDC’s aim is to highlight and stimulate emerging and existing manufacturing industries, particularly those served by its Incubator & Resource Centre, including craft, fashion, essential oils and agro-processing, that stand to contribute immensely to Jamaica’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and export agenda.

As for GEW, which began in 2007, its aim is to celebrate innovators and job creators who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

It also aims to inspire people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.

Sponsorship support for the various events will be provided by Project 2 Project, RJR Gleaner Communications Group, Barita Foundation and Digital Video Concept.
