The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Expo 2013, has received the full endorsement of Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO).
Western Regional Manager at JAMPRO, Conrad Robinson, said the event, which will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from October 11 to 13, is a “good fit for the mandate of JAMPRO.”
“We are pleased to be associated with the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce in the staging of Expo 2013, as it provides for us, an opportunity to enable the business community in Montego Bay, and the wider Jamaica,” he stated.
Mr. Robinson was speaking at a special Think Tank held on September 26, at the Jamaica Information Service’s (JIS) Montego Bay Regional Office, to provide details about the upcoming Expo.
He informed that a visiting trade delegation from the city of Atlanta in the United States, which will be in Montego Bay during the period of the Expo, has been invited to attend.
This, he said, will provide opportunities for Jamaican businesses to engage with the Atlanta delegation, with the aim of forging business linkages.
“They will be looking for opportunities in various sectors. So what we are aiming to do at JAMPRO, is to have a good understanding of what their needs are, and to match those needs with providers of goods and services. So it is going to be a wonderful opportunity for the business community to present to this trade delegation, their services as well as products,” he stated.
Mr. Robinson said there is also going to be an opportunity for investment promotion, “as we will be presenting the investment opportunities here in Jamaica, and in particular, the western side of the island, to this trade delegation to find out if there are going to be leads that can be developed out of this kind of interaction. This expo is going to be a wonderful opportunity for us to expand the commerce in Montego Bay.”
The JAMPRO Regional Manager further stated that there will be far-reaching benefits for businesses that will be participating in the expo as various media will broadcast happenings at the event to markets across the globe.
“One of the things that the Expo will provide is an opportunity for showcasing Jamaican goods and services, not just to the local community, but certainly to the international community. We live in a digital age, and once anything to do with the Expo is broadcast electronically, that now becomes a worldwide audience to which Jamaican products, goods and services will be exposed. The opportunities are endless,” he stated.
Mr. Robinson said JAMPRO will do the necessary follow-ups to ensure that all the links made at the expo will be explored for maximum returns.
