Jamaica’s Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Antonette Wemyss‑Gorman, was among 34 national defence chiefs from across the Americas who attended the inaugural Western Hemisphere Chiefs of Defence Conference, held in Washington DC, from February 10 to 11.

The two‑day conference, hosted by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States (US), General John Daniel “Raizin” Caine, brought together defence chiefs and senior military leaders from across the hemisphere for dialogue on security challenges and opportunities to strengthen regional cooperation.

Officials from the US Department of Defense, Department of State, and the National Guard were also in attendance.

During the conference, Vice Admiral Wemyss‑Gorman commended the United States Government and underscored the significance of the gathering in advancing hemispheric security cooperation.

“The conference was timely, relevant and provided the opportunity for renewed dialogue on defence and security matters affecting the hemisphere,” she stated, adding that Jamaica remains a valued partner within the region.

Vice Admiral Wemyss‑Gorman further affirmed that “the Jamaica Defence Force will continue to engage on matters of national and mutual interest”.
