Jamaicans are being encouraged to purchase and wear the Jamaica 50 commemorative pins to show their patriotism and love for the country.

The Pins of Pride, which bear the Jamaica 50 logo, are priced at $700 each and come in a variety of colours and elegant finishes. One million Jamaicans are being targeted to purchase the pins as part of the Jamaica 50 Secretariat’s One Million Pins initiative launched in June this year.

Marketing Director for the initiative, Joan Young Davis, said that as part of measures to increase sales, the Secretariat will be targeting a number of local and overseas events scheduled to take place before year-end and during the Christmas holidays.

“There are many Jamaicans, especially in the Diaspora, who didn’t have an opportunity to get involved with the celebrations from August 1 to 6, and to access some of the memorabilia coming out of Jamaica 50, (including) the Jamaica 50 pin,” she said, noting that persons will also be able to purchase edited versions of the Jubilee Village experience and the Independence Grand Gala in DVD format.

The Marketing Director, who was addressing a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank held yesterday (Oct. 17), said that retailers can also purchase the pins at a discounted price for resale.

Independence Parks Limited has offered to retail the pins at various events at the National Stadium, with the proceeds to go towards the refurbishing of the facility.

In addition, the Ministries of Youth and Culture and Education will next month, announce an initiative that will see schools receiving the pins at a special cost.

“They can purchase the pins at a discounted cost and they will be able to have the pins for re-sale and the difference… they will be able to put towards their fund raising efforts,” Mrs. Young Davis explained.
