The Full Story

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange is urging Jamaicans to “clean up, decorate their space and dress up in the national colours – the Black, Green and Gold.”

Jamaica’s 60th Independence anniversary year-long celebrations are being observed under the theme ‘Reigniting a Nation for Greatness’.

In a release from the Ministry, Ms. Grange is also encouraging private sector companies “to utilize the official Jamaica 60 logo prominently in the décor of their buildings, both interior and exterior, in a manner that reflects the theme for this Jubilee Year.”

The logo, which was designed by graphic artist, Bobby Smith, features a stylized hummingbird in mid-flight that forms the number 60. It also features the word ‘Jamaica’ in capital letters.

“We hope to inspire a visual unity and cohesion that reflects a national energy and collective vision in glorious colour and creativity,” Minister Grange said.

“It is important for citizens to celebrate their Jamaican-ness by participating in national observations and using the national colours, emblems and cultural goods to help to create a unique Jamaican festival feeling, as we creatively display pride in being Jamaican,” she added.

Information regarding the guidelines for using the logo may be obtained from the Ministry’s official website at www.mcges.gov.jm, the Reggae Jamaica App or by sending an email to jamaica60secretariat@gmail.com
