The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is making additional arrangements for persons who cannot get in the National Stadium to view the Independence Grand Gala on Independence Day, August 6.

Large screens will be set up at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre (RWEC), Hope Road, in Kingston for viewing of the Grand Gala, the culmination of Emancipation and Independence Celebrations. The live streaming will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Executive Director of the JCDC, Delroy Gordon, said a decision has been taken to set up the screens to allow the public to share in the festivities.

“We recognise that the National Stadium is not going to be able to hold all the persons who want to go inside, so we have this year made special preparation to accommodate some of those who will not be able to make it, by creating a viewing site in the Independence village,” he told JIS News.

The RWEC will be transformed into the Independence Village being established to feature daily and nightly events, ranging from stage shows and concerts to exhibitions and expositions. It will be opened from August 1 to 6.

“We are going to have big screens. There will be adequate seating. We will be having food and drinks,” Mr. Gordon said.

The Executive Director said that persons can go to the centre anytime during the day (August 6) and remain for the viewing of the Gala.

Additionally, he said there will be an after-Gala party which will end at approximately mid-night.

“There is no cost, you just come; your best behavior is what is required,” he added.
