February 18, 2005

The Full Story

Visitors to the website of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) now have an added opportunity to listen online to select portions of the JIS flagship radio programme, Jamaica Magazine.
Andrea Bryan, Manager of Computer and Research Services at the JIS, said that the introduction of the radio programme on the World Wide Web was another step by the agency to disseminate information to the public in as many ways as possible.
“When the JIS became an Executive Agency, one of the first things that the Chief Executive Officer, Carmen Tipling decided, was that she was going to give the JIS a face on the World Wide Web and we started with our news releases, and have now decided to go ahead and move to audio,” she said.
With regard to accessing the programme, she said that persons could visit the JIS website at www.jis.gov.jm by utilizing the “Real One Player” computer software.
Visitors to the site can also listen to the messages of the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Howard Cooke, and Prime Minister the Most Hon. P.J. Patterson. The streaming of radio programmes will soon be expanded to facilitate news from the Radio Department.
In addition, visitors can look forward soon to seeing segments of JIS TV’s Jamaica Magazine online. This should come on stream by the end of the year.
Pleased with the initiative, Enthrose Campbell, Manager of the Radio Department said, “we are in the business of disseminating government information, and with this new initiative, our message can now go farther and wider and we think it is an excellent idea”.
