February 16, 2008

The Full Story

Six Jamaican films including the iconic ‘Harder They Come,’ starring reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, will be featured during the Film Jamaica season at the Barbican Centre in London in March.
The other Jamaican films to be featured during the festival, which will runs from March 12 to 30 are: ‘Smile Orange’, ‘Rockers’, ‘One Love’, ‘Countryman’ and ‘No Place Like Home’.
The season of Jamaican cinema will celebrate the island’s rich musical heritage, and will complement the Barbican Theatre’s staging of the ‘Harder They Come’ musical.
The musical is a production of the Theatre Royal Stratford East and UK Arts Production and will run from March 6 to April 5, as part of the Barbican Bite ’08 season. It had already had two sell-out runs at the Theatre Royal Stratford East last year and in 2006.
The Barbican Centre is the largest multi-arts centre in Europe featuring art, film, music, theatre, dance and education under one roof.
