November 24, 2004

The Full Story

In keeping with the spirit of the yuletide season, the Jamaican Consulate in New York has launched its annual toy drive to benefit a number of hospitals and children’s homes across Jamaica.
“Christmas comes but once a year, so let us share the joy of Christmas with the less fortunate (children) in Jamaica,” noted Dr. Basil K. Bryan, Jamaica’s Consul General to New York at the launch of the drive on November19, at the Consulate in Manhattan.
Jamaicans residing in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are being encouraged to demonstrate a sense of goodwill by dropping off toys and other gifts at the Consulate.
Drop off hours will be from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the lobby area on the second floor and up until 4:00 p.m., at the executive office, on the third floor.
For those who will be too busy to visit the Jamaican Consulate, they can still participate in the drive by mailing a cheque or money order to: The Jamaican Consulate, 767 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017.
According to the Consul General Bryan, all contributions and contributors will be acknowledged “personally and publicly.”
“Your contribution will certainly help to bring a smile to the faces of so many children in Jamaica this Christmas,” he said.
Scores of Jamaican children have benefited from the toy drive, which was launched five years ago.
