December 10, 2009

The Full Story

The Governments of Jamaica and the Republic of South Africa are to sign a cultural agreement next week during the visit to Jamaica of the South African Minister of Culture, the Honourable Lulama Xingwana.
Minister Xingwana will arrive in Jamaica on Saturday evening (December 12), and will depart on Monday afternoon (December 14).
Minister Xingwana’s visit to Jamaica follows discussions with the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Honourable Olivia Grange, MP, who visited South Africa in September to participate in the World Summit of Arts and Culture and to hold bilateral meetings.
Minister Grange said she hoped to transform Jamaica’s relationship with South Africa, “from a mere emotional and historical bond, to one of practical and relevant co-operation.”
During her visit, Minister Xingwana will tour some of Jamaica’s heritage sites and will be the guest of honour at a cultural celebration at Jamaica House on Sunday evening (December 13).
