Jamaica Will Be Ready For Cricket World Cup 2007- Prime Minister

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller has assured that everything will be done to ensure that Jamaica is fully prepared to host its segment of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
“Everything that is necessary will be done, and I want to assure you, I have given directives and will be holding those responsible, to ensuring that everything be put in place. Even with the limited resources, I expect everyone to ensure that we will be ready and well-prepared,” declared the Prime Minister.
She was addressing the official launch of the National Community Cricket Championship, held on the lawns of Jamaica House yesterday (August 22). The competition, organized by the Social Development Commission, is aimed at sensitizing communities about the upcoming Cricket World Cup event.
Sixteen community teams have made it to the national finals of the competition. Also speaking at the function, Executive Director of Jamaica Cricket 2007 Limited, Robert Bryan, said it was expected that the competition would establish a basis that eventually could see the creation of a viable and sustainable commercial programme, for the communities, including the attraction of major title sponsors from the private sector.
On the state of preparedness, of the stadiums for the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament, Mr. Bryan gave the complete assurance that “those stadiums are going to be ready as scheduled, and that we are going to have in place, all of the requirements that the LOC has responsibility for in respect of Cricket World Cup 2007”.
